Maps and Desires: Maps and Desires - the universes of Ensaio para uma Cartografia and O Escuro que te Ilumina in Mónica Calle’s theatre

Resumo: This paper inquiries the performative turn in the theater of Monica Calle – Casa Conveniente, where the speech, apparently excluded, and the dramaturgy of the body, in exacerbation, will become a mode of "absent text". To this end, two performances are compared, Ensaio para uma Cartografia and O Escuro que te Ilumina ou as Últimas Sete Palavras de Cristo, together with its creative universes. Developing a historiography of the company, discussing a spectatorship of the aesthetics of this theatre-maker and textualizing the experiences of the body, we come to suggest that a performative cartography is the result of the spatial and subjective maps of these universes. Based on an autoethnographic approach, we have immersed (in a theoretical and practical way) in the drive, the desire, the physical and spiritual endurance and in the singular-collective dialectic – features of Calle’s artistic work. Using distinct writing regimes, the paper is divided into two parts: in I, the creation phases of the two universes are analyzed and, in II, a committed essay as a researcher-performer is sketched.

Para ello, se comparan dos espectáculos, Ensaio para uma Cartografia y O Escuro que te Ilumina o las Últimas Sete Palavras de Cristo, y sus universos de creación. Se propuso una cartografía performativa resultante de los mapas espaciales y subjetivos de estos universos, realizando una historiografía de la compañía, discutiendo una espectaduría de la estética de la directora y textualizando las vivencias del cuerpo. A través de un abordaje autoetnográfico, se sumergió, de forma teórica y práctica, en la pulsión, en el deseo, en la resistencia física y espiritual y en la dialéctica singular-colectiva – características del trabajo artístico de Calle. En distintos regímenes de redacción, el artículo se divide en dos partes: en la I se analizan las fases de creación de los dos universos y, en la II, se desarrolla un ensayo comprometido de investigador-performer.O artigo estuda a viragem performativa no teatro de Mónica Calle – Casa Conveniente, em que a fala, aparentemente excluída, e a dramaturgia do corpo, em exacerbamento, se tornarão um modo de texto ausente. Para tal, comparam-se dois espetáculos, Ensaio para uma Cartografia e O Escuro que te Iluminaou as Últimas Sete Palavras de Cristo, e seus universos de criação. Propôs-se uma cartografia performativa resultante dos mapas espaciais e subjetivos desses universos, efetuando uma historiografia da companhia, discutindo uma espectadoria da estética da encenadora e textualizando as experiências do corpo. Através de uma abordagem autoetnográfica, imergiu-se, de modo teórico e prático, no pulsar, no desejo, na resistência física e espiritual e na dialética singular-coletivo – características do trabalho artístico de Calle.
