Solid waste and the relationship with environmental education in a public school of Alto Vale (SC)

Resumo: A major environmental issue that currently concerns a considerable portion of the population is the excessive solid waste generation, coupled with their inadequate management and destination. In order to relieve this situation was created, by Law 12.305/2010, the Solid Waste National Program, with the aim of encourage cities and states to create projects based on the reduction of these rejects. Besides the government incentive, environmental education may assist this point by deploying healthy environmental habits since the early grades, indirectly covering, parents and community. To check the environmental knowledge level of the educators, a survey was conducted, classified as qualitative and quantitative. The data collection was conducted through questionnaires, consisting in nine open-ended questions and nine closed-ended questions. The questionnaire was applied to the teaching staff of the Orlando Bertoli Basic Education School, in Presidente Getúlio, Santa Catarina, during the second half of October, 2012. As the result of this survey, it is clear that occurred some mistakes and misunderstandings by the professors, probably due the lack of information about solid waste. However, it is possible to perceive a real preoccupation of teachers about the environmental education, indicating and emphasizing the role of educators and educational institutions in the formation of conscious citizens.

Para amenizar esta situación, la Ley 12.305/2010 creó el Plan Nacional de Residuos Sólidos con el fin de incentivar a los municipios y estados a crear proyectos para reducir estos residuos. Además del incentivo del gobierno, la educación ambiental puede ayudar en este aspecto con la implantación de hábitos ambientales desde los grados iniciales, que al enseñar a los niños, abarquen a las personas a su alrededor. Para verificar el nivel de conocimiento de los educadores, se realizó una investigación clasificada en cualitativa y cuantitativa. La técnica de recopilación de datos se realizó mediante cuestionarios, con nueve preguntas abiertas y nueve preguntas cerradas. El cuestionario sobre residuos sólidos fue aplicado a los docentes de la Escola de Educação Básica Orlando Bertoli, en la ciudad de Presidente Getúlio, estado de Santa Catarina, en la segunda quincena de octubre del 2012. Como resultado de esta investigación, se constata que hubo algunos errores y malentendidos por parte de los docentes, derivados de la falta de información sobre los residuos sólidos. Sin embargo, se percibe una real preocupación de los docentes con la educación ambiental, quienes relatan el papel de los educadores y de la institución escolar en la formación de ciudadanos conscientes.Um dos principais problemas ambientais que preocupa boa parte da população é a geração excessiva dos resíduos sólidos, juntamente com seu manejo e destinação final inadequados. A fim de amenizar esta situação, foi criado por meio da Lei 12.305/2010 o Plano Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos com o intuito de incentivar os municípios e estados a criar projetos para a redução destes rejeitos. Além do incentivo do governo, a educação ambiental pode auxiliar neste aspecto com a implantação de hábitos ambientais desde as séries iniciais, que ao ensinar as crianças, abrange as pessoas ao seu redor. Para verificar o nível de conhecimento dos educadores, realizou-se uma pesquisa que se classifica como qualitativa e quantitativa. A técnica de coleta dos dados foi efetuada por meio de questionários, com nove perguntas abertas e nove perguntas fechadas. O questionário sobre resíduos sólidos foi aplicado para o corpo docente da Escola de Educação Básica Orlando Bertoli, da cidade de Presidente Getúlio, Santa Catarina, na segunda quinzena de outubro do ano de 2012. Como resultado desta pesquisa, percebe-se que ocorreram alguns erros e equívocos por parte dos professores, provenientes da falta de informação sobre resíduos sólidos.
