Resumo: This work analyzes the economic feasibility of composting manure. The study looked beyond the field of literature data on a case study. The state of Santa Catarina stands out for volume production of pigs, being the first in the nation in pork production. Aiming to achieve the desired sustainability in the pig industry, it is necessary to develop alternatives that enable the system, both in terms of financial, economic and environmental. The treatment system of pig manure by composting process has the challenge to transform them from environmental liabilities in financial assets, environmental and even leave them in a position to generate income or still in use without environmental burden on the property itself. We present a case study of a composting project for a production unit piglet (UPL) with 950 pigs which rose the necessary investments, maintenance costs and production and also the prediction result which allowed the calculating the economic return on investment. Finally, it is concluded that composting of pig manure proves economically viable addition to the environmental benefits related to water resources, soil and atmosphere.

El estudio buscó más allá de la literatura datos de campo en un estudio de caso. El Estado de Santa Catarina se destaca por el volumen de la porcicultura y es el primero del país en producción de carne de cerdo. Para lograr la sustentabilidad deseada en el sector porcino, es necesario desarrollar alternativas que hagan viable el sistema, tanto en el aspecto financiero y económico como en el ambiental. El sistema de tratamiento de deyecciones porcinas mediante el proceso de compostaje tiene el desafío de transformarlos de pasivos ambientales en activos financieros, ambientales y aun dejarlos en condiciones de generar ingresos o incluso de utilizarse sin carga ambiental en la propia propiedad. Se presenta un estudio de caso de un proyecto de compostaje para una unidad productora de lechones (UPL) con 950 cerdos, para lo cual se estimaron las inversiones necesarias, los costos de mantenimiento y producción, así como la previsión de resultados que permitió calcular el retorno económico de la inversión. Finalmente, se concluye que el compostaje de deyecciones porcinas es económicamente viable además de los beneficios ambientales relacionados con los recursos hídricos, el suelo y la atmósfera. Objetiva analisar a viabilidade econômica da compostagem de dejetos suínos. O estudo buscou além da literatura dados a campo num estudo de caso. O Estado de Santa Catarina destaca-se pelo volume de criação de suínos, sendo o primeiro no país em produção de carne suína. Com objetivo de atingir a desejada sustentabilidade no setor suinícola, faz-se necessário o desenvolvimento de alternativas que viabilizem o sistema, tanto no aspecto financeiro, econômico e ambiental. O sistema de tratamento de dejetos suínos mediante processo de compostagem tem o desafio de transformá-los de passivos ambientais em ativos financeiros, ambientais e ainda deixá-los em condições para geração de renda ou ainda no aproveitamento sem ônus ambiental na própria propriedade. Apresenta-se um estudo de caso de um projeto de compostagem para uma unidade produtora de leitão (UPL) com 950 suínos para o qual se levantou os investimentos necessários, os custos de manutenção e de produção e ainda a previsão de resultado o qual permitiu o cálculo do retorno econômico do investimento.
