Uniforms of Colégio Nossa Senhora das Dores: memories of the school culture of the Belle Époque (1890-1914) in the confines of Minas Gerais

Resumo: In this article, I investigate the relationship between school uniforms and fashion in Minas Gerais during the Belle Époque period (1890-1914) (FOGG, 2014, p. 196). This relationship can be identified in several vehicles of memory of the material culture of school life in Minas Gerais: in the narrative of a normalist student from Diamantina (1893-1895), in the uniform project of the Normal School of Juiz de Fora (1896) and, finally, in the photographic artifacts of Colégio Nossa Senhora das Dores (CNSD) in Uberaba (1908-1912), a female Catholic confessional school in the final period of the Belle Époque in the Triângulo Mineiro. The study is based on a reading of textual and iconographic documents with the objective of understanding the materialization of fashion content and its meanings that, through the coastal ports, entered the country, spreading through Minas, until reaching the Triângulo Mineiro, and that involved the school uniforms. I base the research on the investigation of fashion periodicals; in the narrative of a normalist from Minas Gerais; in a design of uniforms from that period and in photographs of CNSD graduating students; seeking to understand the concepts of fashion in the memory of school life. As a theoretical-methodological procedure, I start from the intersection of text and images with several other sources in a dialectical perspective that situates the concept of fashion, the historical context and the resources of material culture, allowing to understand the production of culture and memory in secular and confessional schools from Minas Gerais, questions that go through the absorption of French fashion in the Brazilian Belle Époque.

Cette relation peut être identifiée dans plusieurs véhicules de mémoire de la culture matérielle de la vie scolaire dans le Minas Gerais : dans le récit d'un étudiant normaliste de Diamantina (1893-1895), dans le projet uniforme de l'École Normale de Juiz de Fora (1896 ) ) et, enfin, dans les artefacts photographiques du Colégio Nossa Senhora das Dores (CNSD) à Uberaba (1908-1912), une école confessionnelle catholique féminine de la dernière période de la Belle Époque dans le Triângulo Mineiro. L'étude est basée sur une lecture de documents textuels et iconographiques dans le but de comprendre la matérialisation du contenu de la mode et ses significations qui, à travers les ports côtiers, sont entrés dans le pays, se sont répandus à travers Minas, jusqu'à atteindre le Triângulo Mineiro, et qui ont impliqué le uniformes scolaires. Je fonde la recherche sur l'investigation des périodiques de mode; dans le récit d'un normaliste du Minas Gerais; dans un dessin d'uniformes de cette période et dans des photographies d'étudiants diplômés du CNSD; cherchant à comprendre les concepts de la mode dans la mémoire de la vie scolaire. Essa relação pode ser identificada em diversos veículos de memória da cultura material da vida escolar em Minas Gerais: na narrativa de uma estudante normalista de Diamantina (1893-1895), no projeto de uniforme da Escola Normal de Juiz de Fora (1896) e, por último, nos artefatos fotográficos do Colégio Nossa Senhora das Dores (CNSD) de Uberaba (1908-1912), escola confessional católica, feminina, no período final da Belle Époque no Triângulo Mineiro. O estudo se baseia numa leitura de documentos textuais e iconográficos com o objetivo de compreender a materialização de conteúdos de moda e seus sentidos que, pelos portos litorâneos, entravam no país, se disseminando por Minas, até chegar ao Triângulo Mineiro, e que envolviam os uniformes escolares. Embaso a pesquisa na investigação de periódicos de moda; na narrativa de uma normalista mineira; em um projeto de uniformes desse período e em fotografias de alunas formandas do CNSD; buscando compreender os conceitos de moda na memória da vida escolar.
