Among forget-me-nots, strawberries and flamboyant: the signed embroidery of Barateiro

Resumo: This article reviews the master's research in Design, developed between 2005 and 2006, which focused on a group of embroiderers from the Barateiro Community (Itapajé – State of Ceará). The embroidery produced there was based on the forget-me-not flowers and strawberry fruits (separated or combined), very common in that municipality. Based on the diagnosis carried out to identify problems in relation to the production, circulation and distribution of embroidery produced in Barateiro (Itapajé – State of Ceará), the Municipal Department of Education developed and implemented “Programa de Revitalização do Artesanato de Itapajé” (Itapajé Handicraft Revitalization Program – PRA-ITA), promoting an intervention with the embroiderers regarding the embroidery pattern that became stylized representations of the flamboyant flower. This action, carried out under the aegis of design, made it possible to configure a collective signature on the embroidery produced in that community. The research's main objective was to demonstrate this process and how aesthetic intervention has become a cultural marker.

Les broderies qui y sont réalisées comportaient des motifs tels que les fleurs de myosotis et les fraises (séparés ou combinés), très courants dans cette commune. Sur la base du diagnostic réalisé pour identifier les problèmes liés à la production, la circulation et la distribution des broderies produites à Barateiro (Itapajé-CE), le Secrétariat Municipal de l'Education a développé et mis en oeuvre le Programme de Revitalisation de l'Artisanat Itapajé - PRA-ITA, en promouvant une intervention auprès des brodeuses concernant les motifs de broderie qui sont devenus dès lors des représentations stylisées de la fleur du flamboyant. Cette action, menée sous l'égide du design, a permis de configurer une signature collective sur les broderies réalisées dans cette communauté. L'objectif principal des recherches était de démontrer ce processus et comment l'intervention esthétique est devenue un marqueur culturel.Este artigo faz uma revisão da pesquisa de mestrado em Design, desenvolvida entre os anos de 2005 e 2006, que teve como foco um grupo de bordadeiras da comunidade de Barateiro (Itapajé-CE). Os bordados ali produzidos tinham como motivos as flores miosótis e os frutos do morango (separados ou combinados entre si), muito comuns naquele município. A partir do diagnóstico realizado para identificar problemas com relação à produção, circulação e distribuição dos bordados produzidos em Barateiro (Itapajé-CE), a Secretaria Municipal de Educação desenvolveu e implementou o Programa de Revitalização do Artesanato de Itapajé – PRA-ITA, promovendo uma intervenção junto às bordadeiras quanto ao padrão dos bordados que passaram a ser representações estilizadas da flor do flamboiã. Esta ação realizada sob a égide do design, possibilitou a configuração de uma assinatura coletiva nos bordados produzidos naquela comunidade.
