Between skirts and razors: possible reflections on clothing, memory and “axé” from an epistemology of macumbas

Resumo: The present work intends to present some possible reflections so that we can think about terreiro clothing, mainly Umbanda, raised in the author at the beginning of her research development in the Master in Social History. For this, this research, of a bibliographical nature, assumes that reflections that transgress the coloniality of power and knowledge (QUIJANO, 2005) are necessary to think about ways of dressing of historically subaltern populations, as in the case of the communities and religiosities of African matrices, and thus relate clothing, memory, body (CALANCA, 2008; BONADIO, 2015; STALLYBRASS, 2008). Therefore, the epistemology of the macumbas thought by Simas and Rufino (2018) is used as a guide. Finally, the text presents the Nosso Sagrado Collection (Museu da República/RJ) as a possible way to think about terreiro clothing as objects of memories of Afrodiasporic experiences in Brazil.

Pour cela, cette recherche, de nature bibliographique, suppose que des réflexions qui transgressent la colonialité du pouvoir et du savoir (QUIJANO, 2005) sont nécessaires pour penser les manières d'habiller des populations historiquement subalternes, comme dans le cas des communautés et des religiosités de matrices africaines, et relient ainsi vêtement, mémoire, corps (CALANCA, 2008 ; BONADIO, 2015 ; STALLYBRASS, 2008). Par conséquent, l'épistémologie des macumbas pensée par Simas et Rufino (2018) est utilisée comme guide. Le texte, enfin, présente la Collection Nosso Sagrado (Museu da República/RJ), composée d'objets sacrés de terreiros saisis par la police à la fin de l'Empire brésilien et se poursuivant sous la République, comme une manière possible de penser le vêtement terreiro comme objets de souvenirs d'expériences afrodiasporiques au Brésil.O presente trabalho busca apresentar algumas reflexões possíveis para que pensemos a indumentária de terreiro, principalmente de umbanda, suscitadas na autora no início de seu desenvolvimento de pesquisa no Mestrado em História Social. Para isso, esta pesquisa, de cunho bibliográfico, parte do pressuposto de que reflexões que transgridam a colonialidade do poder e do saber (QUIJANO, 2005) são necessárias para pensar modos de vestir de populações historicamente subalternizadas, como no caso das comunidades e religiosidades de matrizes africanas, e, assim, relacionar roupa, memória, corpo (CALANCA, 2008; BONADIO, 2015; STALLYBRASS, 2008). Utiliza-se como direcionamento, portanto, a epistemologia das macumbas pensada por Simas e Rufino (2018).
