Resumo: | This study has as a reflection around the ideals defended by the French artist Jean Dubuffet for the conception of the terminology art brut. During the 1940s, the artist expressively demonstrated his positions on art, culture and politics, as regards the formation of society and social issues. Such arguments make it pos-sible to understand certain concepts and trends approached by Dubuffet in his interpretations of art brut productions. Despite its apparent contradiction and utopian yearnings, Dubuffet valued art brut and fostered the emergence of new dialogues and perspectives on the arts. |

Durante la década de 1940, el artista demostró de forma expresiva sus posiciones sobre arte, cultura, política y, en lo que se refiere a la formación de la sociedad e las cuestiones sociales. Estas argumentaciones posibilitan la comprensión de ciertos conceptos e tendencias abordados por Dubuffet en sus interpretaciones sobre las producciones de “arte bruta”. A pesar de su apa-rente contradicción y anhelos utópicos, Dubuffet valoró la “arte bruta” e promovió el surgimiento de nuevos diálogos y perspectivas en las artes.Este estudo tem como intuito uma reflexão em torno dos ideais defendidos pelo artista plástico francês Jean Dubuffet para a concepção da terminologia arte bruta. Durante a década de 1940, o artista demonstrou de forma expressiva seus posicionamentos sobre arte, cultura, política e, no que diz respeito à formação da sociedade e às questões sociais. Tais argumentações possibilitam a compreensão de certos conceitos e tendências abordadas por Dubuffet em suas interpretações sobre as produções de arte bruta.
