Resumo: The place of religious in schools is called into question in the name of the principle of secularism. This study aims to highlight the important role of Christian educational thinkers of the time who, given this educational modernism, maintained a certain ambiguity as to the possibilities of adapting this “new pedagogy”to denominational education. The results show that the child must be torn from the world in which he lost his innocence. His reason is powerless in all respects, and only the flawless intervention of grace can save it. With the second approach, Rousseau's conception, man is born naturally good, but is corrupted by becoming a social being. Education must therefore seek to bring the child back to its natural state without resorting to divine intervention.

EdUECE2019-12-09info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfapplication/pdfapplication/xmlhttps://revistas.uece.br/index.php/redufor/article/view/223110.25053/redufor.v5i13.2231Educ.
