Tourism and regional development on the border between Brazil and Paraguay

Resumo: In recent years, on the Brazil-Paraguay border, the twin towns Porto Murtinho and Carmelo Peralta have received considerable attention from the authorities of both countries. The pair of towns will gain an international bridge, financed by ITAIPU Binational, which will join the Bioceanic Corridor of the Route of Latin American Integration (Rota de Integração Latino-Americana [RILA]). Designed to boost the export of commodities, linking the Port of Santos to ports in northern Chile, the RILA will also constitute a major infrastructure improvement aimed at developing tourism in that cross-border region. Thus, this article proposes, by means of a qualitative research study, based on bibliographic analysis, an approach to the possible impacts caused by the new transport infrastructure on the tourist potential of Porto Murtinho and Carmelo Peralta.

Este par de ciudades ganará un puente internacional, financiado por ITAIPU Binacional, que se unirá al Corredor Bioceánico de la Ruta de Integración Latinoamericana (RILA). Diseñada para impulsar la exportación de commodities, conectando el Puerto de Santos con los puertos del norte de Chile, la RILA también establecerá una importante infraestructura para el desarrollo del turismo en esa región transfronteriza. Así, este artículo propone, por medio de un estudio de investigación cualitativo, basado en análisis bibliográfico, un acercamiento a los posibles impactos causados ​​por la nueva infraestructura de transporte en el potencial turístico de Porto Murtinho y Carmelo Peralta.Ces dernières années, à la frontière Brésil-Paraguay, les villes jumelles Porto Murtinho et Carmelo Peralta ont reçu une attention considérable de la part des autorités des deux pays. Cette paire de villes gagnera un pont international, financé par ITAIPU Binational, qui rejoindra le Corridor Bioocéanique de la Route d’Intégration Latino-Américaine (RILA). Conçu pour stimuler l’exportation de commodities, reliant le Port de Santos aux ports du nord du Chili, le RILA établira également une infrastructure importante pour le développement du tourisme dans cette région transfrontalière. Ainsi, cet article propose, à travers une étude de recherche qualitative, basée sur une analyse bibliographique, une approche des impacts possibles causés par la nouvelle infrastructure de transport sur le potentiel touristique de Porto Murtinho et Carmelo Peralta.Nos últimos anos, na fronteira Brasil-Paraguai, as cidades gêmeas Porto Murtinho e Carmelo Peralta têm recebido especial atenção por parte das autoridades dos dois países. O par de cidades será contemplado com uma ponte internacional, financiada pela Itaipu Binacional, que deverá compor o Corredor Bioceânico da Rota de Integração Latino-Americana (RILA). Projetada para potencializar a exportação de commodities, unindo o Porto de Santos aos portos do norte do Chile, a RILA também irá configurar importante infraestrutura para o desenvolvimento do turismo naquela região transfronteiriça.
