There are great challenges at the national, state, and municipal levels, since an increased rate of population aging has been taking place very quickly and, in this context, realizing which actions the current administrations have been taking to serve this segment is of great relevance, mainly in what refers to this service through public health policies. This study aims to assess the implementation of the Brazilian National Health Policy for the Elderly (Política Nacional de Saúde da Pessoa Idosa [PNSPI]) in the municipal administration of Redenção, Ceará, under aspects related to intersectoriality, public budget, and elderly participation. This study has a qualitative nature, with an evaluative and bibliographical basis, carried out through guided interviews with the main managers of the PNSPI. The setting for data collection has been the Municipal Health Department (Secretaria Municipal de Saúde [SMS]) of Redenção. Data were evaluated according to the perspective of the Practical guide to evaluating public policies, referring to the topic “Implementation Assessment” according to the methodology of performance assessment. Thus, it has been found that the PNSPI is still in the process of being improved at the municipal level, subject to a re-discussion of policy planning, mainly due to the fact that professionals do not have a clear notion of its existence, as well as its functioning in the municipal administration.
