The present work is a review of the book Aporofobia, a aversion to the poor: a challenge for democracy (2020), by the Spanish philosopher Adela Cortina. In order to discuss questions about social phobia against the economically disadvantaged population and the use of hate speech against the impoverished subject and affected by exclusionary aspects in the face of a society that theoretically should provide equal rights, but which in practice continues to foster a system of extreme inequality. The review sets out to expose characteristics of rejection or revulsion towards the poor and their connections with other social problems such as xenophobia, racism and economic inequality. In addition, the philosopher reflects on practical hypotheses that would change the social perception of humanity as a single group, discussing solutions from those that refer to the educational field to those of the scientific field and finally the text concerns the reader with reflections on the state of poverty .
