Resumo: This paper aims to analyze the application of basketball in school and consequently understand the best strategies and methodologies for students' learning, which can lead to their integral development. The methodology used was the bibliographic review, where relevant works that deal with the subject in question were analyzed. Basketball is a human cultural practice, so it must be present in school physical education. The teacher has a preponderant role for the global understanding of students in what concerns basketball, helping them to take this learning to all segments of their life. Therefore, it appears that the teacher can work on basketball content in three dimensions; conceptual, procedural and attitudinal, allowing students to reflect, know how to do and know how to live together, so that they act socially in a critical and reflective way in all segments of their life.

A metodologia utilizada foi à revisão bibliográfica, onde foram analisadas obras relevantes que tratam da temática em questão. O basquetebol é uma prática cultural humana, por isso, deve estar presente na educação física escolar. O professor tem um papel preponderante para compreensão global dos alunos no que concerne o basquetebol, ajudando-os a levarem essa aprendizagem para todos os segmentos de sua vida.
