Resumo: The article maps the trajectory of the black actor and director Waldir Onofre (1934-2015), born in Itaguaí, State of Rio de Janeiro. Coming from a humble family, he worked since he was a child: he was a shoeshine boy, chap driver, locksmith, blacksmith and radio and television technician, an occupation he held for years, even when he was already dedicated to the arts. In 1953 he began to study acting and had a long career as a supporting actor in around 30 films, he directed a feature film (As Aventuras Amoros de um Padeiro, 1975), which is analyzed in more detail in the present text, 4 short films and made 3 driving assists. He has worked, among others, with directors Nelson Pereira dos Santos, Cacá Diegues, Paulo Thiago, Miguel Borges, Sérgio Rezende, Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, Leon Hirszman, Arnaldo Jabor, Bruno Barreto and Sylvio Back.

Originário de família humilde, trabalhou desde criança: foi engraxate, chapista, serralheiro, ferreiro e técnico de rádio e televisão, ocupação que exerceu durante anos, inclusive quando já se dedicava às artes. Em 1953 começou a estudar interpretação e teve longa carreira como ator coadjuvante em cerca de 30 filmes, dirigiu um longa-metragem (As aventuras amorosas de um padeiro, 1975), que recebe análise mais detalhada no presente texto, 4 curtas-metragens e fez 3 assistências de direção.
