Resumo: Catholic education has been fulfilling for almost 500 years a role of great importance in Brazilian education. Catholic schools contribute to excellent quality education in all countries where the Catholic Church exists. The Redemptorist priests whose congregation was founded by Saint Afonso Maria de Ligório, direct several colleges in the countries where the congregation operates. The present work aimed to show a little of the history and the reason for the closing of the Redemptorist College located in the city of Fortaleza in the State of Ceará. As a methodology to carry out this work, on-site visits were made to the Redemptorist College. It was possible to conclude that the Redemptorist College closed due to the lack of priests to direct the Redemptorist College.

Os colégios católicos contribuem para um ensino de excelente qualidade em todos os países onde existe a Igreja Católica. Os padres redentoristas cuja congregação foi fundada por São Afonso Maria de Ligório, dirigem vários colégios nos países onde a congregação atua. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo mostrar um pouco da história e o porquê do fechamento do Colégio Redentorista localizado na cidade de Fortaleza no Estado do Ceará. Como metodologia para realizar esse trabalho foram feitas visitas in loco ao Colégio Redentorista.
