Resumo: This experience report aims to share the contributions of an extension course as an educational product of the Master's research in Mathematics Education at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), during the second half of 2016, for the teaching and learning processes geometry in the early years of elementary school. This training activity was carried out at a private university, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of teachers from the early years of elementary school and students of the Pedagogy course. The activities experienced in the extension course “Geometry: a focus on the early years of elementary school” provided the opportunity for participants to learn and re-signify their mathematical knowledge about geometry in two aspects: Content and Practice. The group participating in the training deepened the geometric concepts studied in their student trajectory in basic education through practical activities carried out in the meetings of the extension course and later experience in mathematics classes in groups of the initial years.

Realizou-se essa atividade formativa em uma universidade particular, estado do Rio de Janeiro, com a participação de professores dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental e estudantes do curso de Pedagogia. As atividades vivenciadas no curso de extensão “Geometria: um enfoque nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental” oportunizaram aos participantes aprender e ressignificar seus conhecimentos matemáticos sobre a geometria em duas vertentes: Conteúdo e Prática.
