Fight in the streets: prostitutes, rights and repression in Rio de Janeiro of the “Golden Years” (1956-1959)

Resumo: This article seeks to understand the actions of the Brazilian State, represented by the police with a specific group, that of prostitutes in the city of Rio de Janeiro, during the presidency of Juscelino Kubitschek. Through periodicals of the time, it is possible to notice the inhuman treatment given by the authorities to these subordinated individuals, in a period that was considered democratic. As a result, we find the violent actions of the police disrespecting these people's fundamental constitutional rights, but we also observe strategies and forms of organization and struggle on the part of these women, aiming to resist and, more than that, defend what they considered to be their right. Por medio de periódicos de la época es posible percibir el trato inhumano concedido por las autoridades a esas individuas subordinadas, en un periodo considerado democratico. Como resultado encontramos las acciones violentas e irrespetuosas de la policía frente a los derechos constitucionales fundamentales de esas personas, además de eso observamos estrategias y formas de organización y lucha por parte de esas mujeres teniendo como objetivo resistir y más que eso, defender lo que consideraban su derecho. Prostitución.Este artigo busca compreender as ações do Estado brasileiro, representado pela polícia com um grupo específico, o das prostitutas na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, durante o Governo de Juscelino Kubitschek. Por meio de periódicos da época é possível perceber o tratamento desumano dispensado pelas autoridades a essas pessoas subalternizadas, em um período que se considerava como democrático. Como resultado, encontramos as ações violentas da polícia desrespeitando direitos constitucionais fundamentais dessas pessoas, mas também observamos estratégias e formas de organização e de luta por parte dessas mulheres, visando resistir e mais do que isso, defender aquilo que consideravam ser seu direito.
