Resumo: In this paper, we seek to understand the thrift shop as a place somewhat beyond old clothes, that is, a space that allows sustainable practices for the consumption of fashion products and that is related to emerging consumption behaviors, described as sustainable. The present reflection starts from the diagnosis of the current consumption in the fashion field, which represents a degrading practice to the environment. Thus, through methodological steps, we describe the worries related to the current consumption and discarding of fashion products, and review the concepts of fashion, sustainable consumption and thrift shops. Finally, we present – through a theoretical and relational perspective that provides seven core arguments for discussion – the thrift shop as an environment that allows sustainable practices through the reuse of garments, having the consumer in a central role of the buying process, since they start from the consumption of old clothes and land on the emerging fashion consumption trends.

A presente reflexão parte de um diagnóstico do atual consumo do setor da moda, no qual representa uma prática degradante ao meio ambiente.
