Three hundred and forty dog skin scrapings were examined in the Parasitology Laboratory of the veterinary medicine department at the University, of Londrina Paraná, to study the epidemiology of Demodex canist The specimens were obtained from the University Veterinary Hospital and other private clinics in the region from January 1980 to December 1983. Demodex canis was present in 96 scrapings (28,26%) in variable quantities showing clinical relation of the disease. The demodectic mange diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical symptoms and the presence of etiological agent by direct microscopic examination of scrapings in a 10% Potassium hydroxide solution, The following conclusions were made from this study: the dogs between o to 12 months of age were more susceptible; the breed seemed to have an influence on the appearance of demodectic mange; the sex had no influence on the ocurrance of the disease; no variations in the seasonal distribution of the demodectic mange were noticed.
