Bovine mammomonogamosis: frequency and morphological and pathological descriptions.

Resumo: The authors studied parasites in the larynx of cattle in 2,936 animals slaughtered, in Apucarana, Paraná State, during June 1989 and February 1990. Those animals were from Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul State. The age of the animals ranged from 20 to 60 months old, from the breeds Nelore, Gir, Holstein Friesiens and cross breeds of these. The incidence of Mammomonogamus laryngeus revealed an average rate of 13.77% in animals from Paraná State and 15.72% from Mato Grosso do Sul State. Specimens of M. laryngeus were found harbouring only the larynx. The number of parasites found in the infected cattle varied from 1 to 33 pairs. The average size of some structures of helminths were measured and the lesions were described.

The average size of some structures of helminths were measured and the lesions were described.   No período de junho de 1989 a fevereiro de 1990 foi realizada colheita de laringe de 2.936 bovinos abatidos em matadouro-frigorífico, Apucarana, Paraná, Os animais eram procedentes de 30 municípios do Paraná e 6 do Mato Grosso do Sul. Destes 2.936 animais, 415 (14,13%) estavam parasitados por Mammomonogamus laryngeus. Os parasitas foram encontrados somente na mucosa da laringe. Os 2.389 animais procedentes do Paraná tiveram índice de parasitismo de 13,77%, sendo 1894 machos, com 262 (13,82%) parasitados e 495 restantes eram fêmeas e destes, 67 (13,53%) estavam parasitados. Dos 547 animais procedentes do Mato Grosso do Sul, o índice de parasitismo foi de 15,72%, 333 eram machos com 64 (19,21%) parasitados e 214 eram fêmeas e com 22 (10.30%) parasitadas. O número de parasitas encontrados na mucosa de laringe bovina variou de 1 a 33 pares, com uma média de 3,44 pares por animal.
