Oeste journal: an essay on modernization in the Goiás hinterland during the Age Vargas

The aim of this article is to analyze the intellectual production around the journal Oeste, which circulated from 1942 to 1944 in the city of Goiânia, and produced twenty-four issues. This magazine had clear purposes of being a disseminator of local and national writers, both established and unknown, however, its bias for political propaganda was deeply embedded in its pages. Sponsoring Pedro Ludovico Teixeira, the Goian intervenor chosen by Getúlio Vargas after the Coup of 1930, Oeste would make a broad defense of the new Varguista state and also of the new local leader. In addition to defending Ludovico, Oeste would strongly support and publicize the great modernizing project of Goiás at that time: the construction of a new capital, Goiânia, inaugurated in July 1942.
