Resumo: | The Breakdown of the Proximity in a Polarized Society: The Case of the Santa Clara Convent in Mérida, Venezuela. 1810 – 1827. In the early nineteenth century, the Spanish American society was polarized and split into two hostile camps, known as Royalists and Patriots, whose conflicts were appreciated significantly over the ideological and institutional areas. In turn, that led to the breaking of any bonds of proximity. This situation was experienced in the convent of Poor Clares of Merida, Venezuela; an institution that was established in 1651 for the religious profession of privileged women of the west of the present Republic of Venezuela, enjoying the respect of society and also, they were depository of significant amounts of capital, becoming the most important convent in western Venezuela. The incidence of the polarization of the independence times society determined the breakdown of close ties within the Poor Clares convent of Merida, motivating physical and ideological separation of the nuns. The implications and effects were traumatic for these cloistered women. |

Esa situación fue vivenciada en el monasterio de Clarisas de Mérida (Venezuela), se estableció en 1651, destinado a la profesión de las mujeres privilegiadas del occidente de la actual República de Venezuela, disfrutando de respeto de sociedad y asimismo fueron depositarias de significativos montos de capital, convirtiéndose en el convento más importante del occidente de Venezuela. La incidencia de la polarización de la sociedad independentista determinó la ruptura de los lazos de proximidad en el interior del convento Clarisas emeritenses motivando la separación tanto física como ideológica de las religiosas, cuyas incidencias y efectos fueron traumáticos para las enclaustradas.No início do século XIX, a sociedade hispano-americana se polarizou, dividindo-se em duas facções antagônicas, conhecidas como monarquistas e patriotas, cujos conflitos foram significativamente valorizados nas esferas ideológicas e institucionais, o que, por sua vez, causou a fratura nos laços de proximidade. Esta situação foi vivida no mosteiro das Clarissas de Mérida (Venezuela), fundado em 1651, destinado à profissão de mulheres privilegiadas do oeste da atual República da Venezuela, gozando do respeito da sociedade e também depositárias de importantes grandes quantidades de capital, tornando-se o convento mais importante do oeste da Venezuela.
