Resumo: | Although being questioned and forgotten for a long time because of the association of its image to the military government, the memoirs of the Second World War Brazilian ex-combatants was and still is very celebrated by its memories communities, resulting in a big number of monuments, especially the National Monument to the Dead of the Second World War (MNMSGM-RJ), popularly known as “Pracinhas Monument”, object of this paper. This article, product of the research realized in the Patrimony and History post-graduation program at Universidade Estadual de Londrina, aims to analyze the monumental group in its integrality, or in other words, the physical monument together with the immaterial aspects; the objective is to perceive what kind of historic and memorial narratives the Monument intended and intends to tell, considering all its faces: material, symbolic and functional.
