Brizola and the Communists: the Nationalist Commands in the conjuncture of the civil-military coup of 1964

Resumo: Amid the radicalization and polarization that configured the beginning of the decade of 1960 in Brazil, several strategies were made by the various political tendencies of the time. In this context, this article intends to circumscribing the differences of conception and action between Leonel de Moura Brizola and his allies in contraposition to the people linked to Luiz Carlos Prestes in the Brazilian Communist Party. This article focus on the regimentation promoted by Brizola of a political movement entitled “Nationalist Commands”, also known as “Groups of Eleven Companions”.
