Resumo: This article analyses the art collection of the Museu de Arte de Belém as part of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the city of Belém, State of Pará, Brazil. This collection initiated in the period of the Empire of Brazil, was further improved during the early Republic as part of a political exercise that puts the Arts and History as formative elements of nationality.
