Resumo: For a long time, a vision prevailed –fundamented on the perception of the existence of a dichotomy between scientific practice and Catholic culture – that the Iberian-American world and the Society of Jesus contributed little to the history of the sciences in the Modern Era. In this article, based in the analysis of a manuscript about surgery, written in the reductions of the Jesuitic Province of Paraguay, in 1725, we present and discuss evidence of the circulation of knowledge, which involved native informants, Jesuit missionaries and European men of science, and point to their contribution to the reconfiguration of the construction of modern scientific knowledge.

Neste artigo, a partir da análise de um manuscrito de cirurgia, escrito nas reduções da Província Jesuítica do Paraguai, no ano de 1725, apresentamos e discutimos evidências da circulação de conhecimentos, que envolveu informantes nativos, missionários jesuítas e homens de ciência europeus, e apontamos para sua contribuição na reconfiguração da construção do conhecimento científico moderno.
