The normative speech “on” and “for” the Indian’s doctrines: the catholic identity’s construction of the natives of New Kingdom of Granada (1556-1606)

The present paper tries to demonstrate in which measure the normative speech “on” and “for” the Indian’s doctrines contributed to the construction of the catholic identity of the native inhabitants. The response of the interrogation is established by the speech’s analysis of the constitutions of the synod summoned by Fray Juan de los Barrios in 1556 and of the Catechism of Fray Luis Zapata de Cárdenas, published in 1576. The analysis of these documents has allowed determining the function of the Indian’s doctrines in the introduction and the promotion of the models of meaning and of behavior that were imposed to the native inhabitants. It is demonstrated that the speech on the spatial arrangement of the doctrine, but more particularly that on the place of worship contributed to the creation of the catholic identity of the natives inhabitants of New Kingdom of Granada in the second half of the 16th century.
