Resumo: The relationship of Michel Foucault to historians was not linear: for often invade areas of Clio, since History of Madness (1961) was never ignored but, never openly accepted. The dialogues between the philosopher and historians were marked by various forms of theoretical-methodological appropriation, strategic and critical approximations, ranging from mild warnings to complete rejection and disqualification. From the texts and speeches of Foucault and some historians – most linked to Annales – we try to discuss these dialogues in moving at two levels, namely: First, through an historiographical character analysis, we reconstitute the trajectory of the relationship between Foucault and historians. And second, through a reflection of a theoretical and methodological framework, we define the practices that make up the Foucault’s historical ontology of ourselves and those that usually compose the historian’s craft. Thus, we believe to have a better understanding of what underlies the rugged path of dialogue between historians and the philosopher and consequently, allow further research on the topic in question and other modes to historians use Foucault’s thinking.
