Resumo: The themes regarding the political memory of women have become an intrinsic part of modern historic research. Special attention has been directed toward the testimony of feminine activist figures that have risen during the civilian-military dictatorships in South America. Deriving from the dialogue with this recent trend on modern South American historiography, the present article suggests an analysis between memory, history, subjectivity and experience based on the gender dynamics that permeated the tensions and ambiguities found in the dilema of women dedicated to left-wing political activism and motherhood. Special attention is given to two countries in the Southern Cone region of South America, Brazil and Argentina, for which profound similarities can be noticed. Adopting as privileged resources autobiographical accounts and testimonies published in books and other platforms, this article intends to point out the complexity of this issue, highlighting the different nuances and plurality of experiences and perspectives concerning political activism and its intertwining with motherhood.
