Resumo: Objective: to understand patients' perceptions of home postoperative care for cardiac surgery. Method: an exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study that employed the theory of medical anthropology, based on Kleinman's explanatory model of illness. The participants were selected through convenience sampling, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were recorded. The information was subjected to Bardin's content analysis technique Results: The research involved 13 patients who underwent cardiac surgery. Two categories with their subcategories were identified, named as 'Facilitators' and 'Challenges' in home care during the postoperative period of cardiac surgery. Final considerations: the perceptions of patients who underwent cardiac surgery were permeated by facilitators, enabled by the guidance they received from healthcare professionals during their hospitalization. However, they also encountered difficulties related to the post-surgical recovery process. The instructions provided at the time of hospital discharge were crucial in ensuring that home care was carried out with greater safety, promoting a faster recovery.

Método: estudio exploratorio, descriptivo y cualitativo que utilizó como marco teórico la teoría de la antropología médica, basada en el modelo explicativo de la enfermedad de Kleinman. Los participantes fueron seleccionados por conveniencia y los datos se recopilaron a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas que fueron grabada sLa información fue sometida a la técnica de análisis de contenido de Bardin. Resultados: Participaron en la investigación 13 pacientes sometidos a cirugía cardíaca. Se identificaron dos categorías con sus subcategorías, denominadas facilidades y dificultades en los cuidados domiciliarios durante el período postoperatorio de cirugía cardíaca. Consideraciones finales: Las percepciones de los pacientes que se sometieron a una cirugía cardíaca estuvieron marcadas por facilidades, facilitadas por las orientaciones que recibieron de los profesionales de la salud durante la hospitalización, pero también experimentaron dificultades relacionadas con el proceso de recuperación postoperatoria. Las instrucciones para el alta hospitalaria fueron fundamentales para que los cuidados en el hogar se llevaran a cabo de manera más segura, promoviendo una recuperación más rápida.Objetivo: conhecer as percepções dos pacientes acerca do pós-operatório domiciliar de cirurgia cardíaca. Método: estudo exploratório, descritivo, qualitativo, que empregou como referencial a teoria da antropologia médica, baseada no modelo explicativo de doença de Kleinman. Os participantes foram selecionados por conveniência, e os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista semiestruturada, as quais foram gravadas. As informações foram submetidas à técnica de análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Resultados: participaram da pesquisa 13 pacientes submetidos à cirurgia cardíaca. Identificaram-se duas categorias com suas subcategorias, nomeadas de facilidades e de dificuldades nos cuidados domiciliares no pós-operatório de cirurgia cardíaca. Considerações finais: as percepções dos pacientes que se submeteram à cirurgia cardíaca foram permeadas por facilidades, viabilizadas pelas orientações que receberam dos profissionais de saúde, durante a hospitalização, mas também tiveram dificuldades relacionadas ao processo de recuperação pós-cirúrgica.
