Black poetry in afro-brazilian literature: attempts at definition and some possibilities for investigation

Resumo: This paper aims at the discussion of the main characteristics of Afro-Brazilian literary production, with focus on the theoretical propositions by Damasceno (1988) e Bernd (1988). Diverging slightly from those authors, we propose the idea that black literature is produced by black authors, with a worldview and the specific historic experience of subjects who acknowledge/affirm themselves as blacks. Thus, the aesthetic effectiveness of black literature is directly related to the forms of perceiving the world and the values of the black experience.

Divergindo ligeiramente dessas autoras, propõe-se a noção de que a literatura negra é aquela escrita por autores negros, com a visão de mundo e a experiência de sujeitos históricos que se reconhecem e se afirmam como negros.
