Exclusion and memory spaces in the narratives by Conceição Evaristo and Carolina Maria de Jesus

Resumo: The relationship between memory and space has been explored by researchers in various fields of knowledge, in particular literature, since this is a relationship that pervades the individual through his/her individual experience, as well as in social relations. The construction of spatiality and the ways in which places are experienced imply displacements and vary according to the reality and perspective of each individual. In this context, this study aims to analyze the memory spaces in the works Memory alleys (2013), by Conceição Evaristo, and Eviction room: diary of a favelada (2014), by Carolina Maria de Jesus, in order to understand how the senzala space presents itself in the favela space, from mechanisms of exclusion. The physical space is evidenced in the narratives investigated herein, representative of the social condition of the characters, mediated by social values.

The physical space is evidenced in the narratives investigated herein, representative of the social condition of the characters, mediated by social values.A relação entre memória e espaço tem sido explorada por pesquisadores de diversos campos do conhecimento, na literatura em particular, visto que é uma relação que perpassa o indivíduo na sua vivência individual e nas relações sociais. A construção da espacialidade e os modos como os lugares são vivenciados implicam deslocamentos e variam de acordo com a realidade e perspectiva de cada indivíduo. Desse modo, este trabalho objetiva analisar os espaços de memória nas obras Becos da Memória (2013), de Conceição Evaristo e Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada (2014), de Carolina Maria de Jesus, a fim de compreender como o espaço-senzala presentifica-se no espaçofavela, a partir dos mecanismos de exclusão.
