Resumo: This paper aims to reflect on the brief forms in the literary context, focusing on this subject in a double perspective: on the one hand, to consider the concept of briefness, which will be understood in the present writing in the poundian and ideogramic meaning of abridgment. On the other hand, to analyse the influence of these brief forms to a contemporary romance – Homens imprudentemente poéticos (2006), by Valter Hugo Mãe – gender that, unlike poetry, characterizes by its extension, not by restraint. The premise that leads our critic interpretation is that there is, in the foundation of this romance, a threshold in which east and west loose the borders between them to build a new tensional and dialogic field among different, yet complementary, strengths. Each chapter has a double side: the instantaneous is condensed between words, visuality and meaning, inspired by the brief forms of literature and Japanese calligraphic art, such as haicai and sumiê. In addition, it expands in connections with those that sometimes precede, sometimes succeed it, without causality, in order to constitute a plot. Between poetry and prose, the poetic imprudence happens in this romance.

Between poetry and prose, the poetic imprudence happens in this romance.O artigo objetiva refletir sobre as formas breves no âmbito literário, focalizando a temática de um duplo ponto de vista: de um lado, refletir sobre o conceito de brevidade, que aqui será entendido no sentido poundiano e ideogrâmico de condensação; de outro, analisar o impacto destas formas breves num romance contemporâneo – Homens imprudentemente poéticos (2016), de Valter Hugo Mãe, gênero que, ao contrário da poesia, caracteriza-se mais pela expansão do que pela contenção. A premissa que conduz a nossa interpretação crítica é a de que há, na fundação deste romance, um entrespaço liminar no qual oriente e ocidente perdem as fronteiras que os separam para constituírem um novo campo tensional e dialógico entre forças diferentes, mas complementares. Cada capítulo possui uma dupla face: de um lado, é um instantâneo condensado entre palavra, visualidade e sentido, inspirado nas formas breves da literatura e da arte caligráfica japonesa como o haicai e o sumiê; de outro, expande-se em conexões com aqueles que ora o antecedem, ora o sucedem, sem que a causalidade se estabeleça, a fim de que uma trama se constitua.
