Resumo: The objective of this work will be to present, through a selection of excerpts from the work of Azevedo Amaral, his vision of the political process in the Old Republic until the Revolution of 30, and, from this, to the Estado Novo. The concern is to show how the author interprets, in the period, the relationship of democratic-liberal institutions with the Brazilian reality and, in the light of this interpretation, presents his proposal for an alternative political organization. More precisely, it is about focusing, in a privileged way on the issue of political participation, presenting some of the dilemmas of political citizenship in that period of our history.
