Complexity, cognition and knowledge in Niklas Luhmann's systemic theory

Resumo: The present article explains and re-examine some central aspects of Niklas Luhmann's systemic theory about Contemporary Society, viewed as complex. More specifically, we aim to explain in detail the relationship between the complexity pertaining to Contemporary Society, the cognition and knowledge that are developed in the observer systems. The relationship between these three elements is of paramount importance for the understanding of how the author describes Contemporary Society and the epistemological limits that Sociology. Thus, this article is divided into three parts: at first, we explain the concept of system, its theoretical unfolding and its relationship with the complexity of Contemporary Society; then, we discuss the systemic operation that links the relationship of reduced complexity with cognition and the knowledge of observer systems; finally, reflect on how(social) reality is built through systemic operations.

Más específicamente, nuestro objetivo es describir en detalle la relación entre la complejidad perteneciente a la Sociedad Contemporánea, la cognición y el conocimiento que se desarrollan en los sistemas observadores. Entendemos que la relación entre estos tres elementos es de suma importancia para comprender cómo el autor describe la Sociedad Contemporánea y los límites epistemológicos que enfrenta contemporáneamente la sociología, como área del conocimiento científico. Por tanto, este artículo se divide en tres partes: en primer lugar, explicamos el concepto de sistema, sus implicaciones teóricas y su relación con la complejidad de la sociedad contemporánea; luego, discutimos la operación sistémica que vincula la relación de complejidad reducida con la cognición y el conocimiento de los sistemas observadores; finalmente, reflexionamos sobre cómo se construye la realidad (social) a través de operaciones sistémicas.O presente artigo objetiva explicar e reexaminar elementos centrais da teoria sistêmica de Niklas Luhmann acerca da Sociedade Contemporânea, considerada complexa. Mais especificamente, visamos descrever pormenorizadamente a relação entre a complexidade atinente à Sociedade Contemporânea, a cognição e o conhecimento que se desenvolvem nos sistemas observadores. Entendemos que a relação entre esses três elementos é de suma importância para a compreensão de como o autor descreve a Sociedade Contemporânea e os limites epistemológicos que a Sociologia, enquanto área do conhecimento científico, enfrenta contemporaneamente.
