The Construction of an Enemy to be Fought and the Justifications for the Military Coup: A Communicational Analysis of the Jornal do Brasil Between 1960-1964

Resumo: Through documentary research on the newspaper Jornal do Brasil, using the Brazilian digital newspaper library tool, in addition to the communication analysis of articles published between 1960 and 1964, we aim to understand whether the narratives spread in this period contributed to the consolidation of the military coup. The analysis goes from the beginning of this discourse to the seizure of power, examining the coup as a construction. Employing the research technique called communication analysis for the study of the chosen articles, we describe the contents published in the newspaper. We conclude that this newspaper contributed to the construction of the idea of communism as an enemy to be fought, one of the narratives created to justify the coup.

El análisis comienza en el inicio del discurso y continúa hasta la toma del poder, analizando el golpe como una construcción. Empleando la técnica de investigación conocida como análisis comunicacional en los artículos seleccionados, describimos el contenido transmitido por el periódico. Concluimos que el periódico contribuyó a la construcción del imaginario que entendía el comunismo como un enemigo a combatir, que fue una de las narrativas creadas para justificar el golpe.Por meio de pesquisa documental no periódico Jornal do Brasil, utilizando a ferramenta Hemeroteca Digital Brasileira, somada à análise comunicacional de matérias aí publicadas entre os anos de 1960-1964, temos como objetivo compreender se as narrativas propagadas neste lapso temporal contribuíram para a consolidação do golpe militar. A análise começa no início do discurso e segue até à tomada do poder, analisando o golpe como uma construção. Empregando a técnica de pesquisa conhecida como análise comunicacional nas matérias selecionadas, fazemos uma descrição dos conteúdos veiculados pelo jornal.
