Sociology teaching: contemporary peculiarities and challenges

Resumo: The aim of this study is to perform an analytical design of the particularities and conditions of the teaching of sociology in Brazilian high schools. It deals with the placement of sociology within the educational system of the country, of its educational potentials and dilemmas since its institutionalization as a scientific subject in the 1930’s. The analysis sets forth elements for a reflection on the challenges of both the social sciences and educators within the context of contemporary social reality and its determinations. Supported by teaching, research and extension activities alike, this study engenders reflections on formative experiences and presents an initial diagnosis of the concrete conditions in which this discipline is taught within the schools of Santa Catarina.

Trata do lugar da Sociologia no sistema educacional do país, de suas potencialidades educativas e dos dilemas enfrentados desde sua institucionalização como disciplina científica, na década de 1930. A análise trás elementos para se pensar os desafios colocados às ciências sociais e aos educadores no contexto da realidade social contemporânea e de suas novas determinações.
