Resumo: In the management of a battalion of the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the fight of a command is not limited to taking care of the unit's operation. In addition to the concern with reducing strategic crime indicators, the results expected by hierarchical superiors in relation to police production and compliance with disciplinary rules, it is necessary to manage internal conflicts and those that emerge from institutional relations with other bodies security and criminal justice, the executive and legislative branches, and society. Between January and December 2019, the practice of participant observation, constant dialogue with the command of the 32nd Military Police Battalion and the analysis of documents enabled the identification of established priorities and strategies adopted in an attempt to overcome the resulting obstacles the structural and cultural limits intrinsic to the corporation and the social context in which the battalion is inserted.

Además de la preocupación por reducir los indicadores estratégicos de criminalidad, los resultados esperados por los superiores jerárquicos en relación a la producción policial y el cumplimiento de las normas disciplinarias, es necesario gestionar los conflictos internos y los que surgen de las relaciones institucionales con otros órganos de seguridad y justicia penal, los poderes ejecutivo y legislativo, y la sociedad. Entre enero y diciembre de 2019, la práctica de la observación participante, el diálogo constante con el mando del 32 Batallón de Policía Militar y el análisis de documentos permitieron identificar las prioridades establecidas y las estrategias adoptadas en un intento por superar los obstáculos resultantes de los límites estructurales y culturales. intrínseco a la corporación y al contexto social en el que se inserta el batallón.Na gestão de um batalhão da Polícia Militar do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, a luta de um comando não se limita ao cuidado com o funcionamento da unidade. Além da preocupação com a redução dos indicadores estratégicos de criminalidade, os resultados esperados por parte dos superiores hierárquicos em relação à produção policial e ao cumprimento das normas disciplinares, é necessário administrar os conflitos internos e aqueles que emergem perante as relações institucionais com os demais órgãos da segurança pública e da justiça criminal, os poderes executivo e legislativo, e a sociedade.
