Networks, Social Medias and Discourse: A Bibliometric Analysis of Brazilian Field Studies between 2010-2021

The article reviews research on networks, social media, and discourse published in national journals in the last ten years to understand the production of this scientific field and its trends. The research used the methodology of bibliometric analysis, with an analysis of co-authorship and keywords, followed by a qualitative analysis of the main themes of this bibliography. The argument prioritizes the contributions from Sociology and its interface with other areas of knowledge, having as guiding axes: how the studies approach social media, their definitions, and analytical possibilities; the specificities of discourse and discourse analysis of social networks; and, still, the definitions of these empirical objects. The results show that initially, these studies relate through the conception of social networks and the technique of discourse analysis, but without relation to social media itself. Nevertheless, this field is expanding in the Social Sciences, and this trend is related to the process of platforming the web and context variables, such as the use of alternative metrics, the debate on gender and race issues, the dissemination of misinformation on social media and the context of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
