Resumo: This paper presents some reflections about how different documents are able to produce, give materiality and stabilize the reality of sex and gender of transsexual people by classifying individuals in certain categories, attesting aspects of life of the subjects, proving certain experiences and building concise and consistent narratives and trajectories. Moreover, the production of truth about sex and gender occurs among disputes and appropriations of theories formulated in various fields of knowledge, which are essential to access the right to change name and/or sex in the civil registry. The data analyzed here derives from an ethnography in the Defense Center of Sexual Diversity and “Homoaffective Rights” of the State Public Defender of Rio de Janeiro.

Além disso, a produção da verdade sobre o sexo e o gênero se dá em meio a disputas e apropriações de teorias formuladas em diversos campos do saber, que são fundamentais para o acesso ao direito de alteração de nome e/ou sexo no registro civil.
