Resumo: The scarcity of drinking water is proving to be aproblem that affects many countries around the world, being, however, more accentuated in regions lacking infrastructure. This study seeks to discuss the problem of access to water in the northern region of Brazil, with the general objective of analyzing the causes and consequences of the lack of drinking water supply to riverside populations in the state of Amazonas, pointing out the main actions that can help minimize such a situation. To achieve this objective, the following specific objectives will be developed: a) Theoretical survey about the scarcity of fresh water and its right of access; b) Verification of the lack of drinking water in the northern region of Brazil and; c) Analysis of the difficulties observed within the riverside communities of the State of Amazonas. It is a qualitative research, developed in the deductive method, based on bibliographical and documental review.

O presente estudo busca discutir o problema do acesso à água na região norte do Brasil, tendo como objetivo geral analisar as causas e as consequências da falta de abastecimento de água potável às populações ribeirinhas do estado do Amazonas, apontando as principais ações que podem ajudar a minimizar tal situação. Para alcançar este objetivo serão desenvolvidos como objetivos específicos: a) Levantamento teórico acerca da escassez de água doce e do seu direito de acesso; b) Verificação acerca da carência de água potável na região norte do Brasil e; c) Análise das dificuldades observadas no âmbito das comunidades ribeirinhas do Estado do Amazonas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, desenvolvida no método dedutivo, baseada em revisão bibliográfica e documental.
