Resumo: This article intends to verify compliance with the right to water as a human right. The right to water is implicitly referred to in several of the rights protected by laws such as the right to life, to enjoy a standard of living adequate for health and well being, to protection against diseases and access to food. All these documents stress the need for states to recognize water as a fundamental human right. In world international, discussions have emphasized the importance of the recognition of access to water as a human right, since this is an indispensable precondition for achieving other human rights. Without equitable access to a minimum quantity of drinking water, the other rights set become unreachable, eg, the right to a standard of living adequate for health and wellness, as well as civil and political rights.

O direito à água está previsto de forma implícita em vários dos direitos protegidos por leis, tais como o direito à vida, o de desfrutar de um nível de vida adequado à saúde e ao bem estar humano, à proteção contra doenças e ao acesso à alimentação. Todos estes documentos reforçam a necessidade dos Estados em reconhecer a água como direito humano fundamental. No mundo globalizado os debates internacionais têm enfatizado a importância do reconhecimento do acesso à água como direito humano, uma vez que essa é uma precondição indispensável para alcançar os demais direitos humanos.
