INDIAN MYTHS AND MORAL VALUES: A SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS

Resumo: In this paper, we examine two Indian myths from Brazil, trying to emphasize their systematicity in relation to the values they convey. Focusing on the theme of the emergence of the moon, we attempt to demonstrate that such narratives form a coherent and organized whole of meaning, which includes elements frequently taken as evidence of the chaos present in mythical discourse. In order to do so, we used the theoretical and methodological approach of French Semiotics, a theory concerned, specially, with the  intradiscursive mechanisms of meaning construction.

Focalizando a temática de surgimento da lua, buscamos demonstrar que tais narrativas constituem um todo de sentido, coerente e organizado, do qual fazem parte elementos, não raro, tomados como indício de caos no discurso mítico.
