Resumo: This article, through a discourse analysis, aims to verify the effects of meaning in four covers of Brazilian newspapers after Brazil 1 x 7 Germany, in the FIFA World Cup 2014. Considered traumatic, the defeat was represented recurrently by images of people crying inside and out of the stadium. In the four selected cases, the picture appears as one of the main discursive resources – hence we seek to discuss the meaning of tears in the narrative following the fiasco in the soccer play.
