In the middle of the way there was a newspaper: Drummond in newspaper texts – issues in interdiscoursiveness

This work, part of a greater research conducted by the research group called “Ensino de línguas numa perspectiva discursiva e textual, in the line of research” Texto, discurso e ensino: processos de leitura e de produção do texto escrito e falado, in the post-graduation master‘s degree course in Linguistics at the Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul, aims at reflecting upon the aspects that constitute interdiscoursiveness through the observation of newspaper texts. To do so, Carlos Drummond de Andrades‘s poem “No Meio do Caminho” will be taken into consideration. It was first published in” Revista de Antropofagia, in 1928, and later in the book “Alguma Poesia”, in 1930. The so criticized verses impacted the collective imagery of society in such a way that their echoes still reverberate nowadays. In this way, this work will observe how this poem is made present in current newspaper texts. To do so, we will consider Orlandi (2005), whose proposition is that discoursive memory, or interdiscourse, is what has been said before, in another place, independently, in a way that such enunciations are composed by repetitions and redefinitions of other previously produced enunciations and it is in the tension between paraphrasing and polysemic processes that language production stands on. Besides the poem, the corpus of this work will be composed by five different newspaper texts from three different sources, all of which from their on-line versions. The effects of Drummond‘s poem will be taken into consideration as the “stone in the way” is observed within the imagery produced through each text.
