Political coup or impeachment? The political polarization from Veja and Carta Capital magazine’s covers

Resumo: | The dismissal of Dilma Rousseff from the Presidency of the Republic in August 2016 inaugurated one of the most controversial historical periods in recent Brazilian history. In a fragmented scenario in the discussion of whether it was impeachment or a political coup, we observed numerous partisan and ideological questions. This paper proposes to analyze four covers of weekly magazines (Veja and Carta Capital) to understand the positioning of each one in relation to the political event. The theoretical basis that supports the analysis is the discursive semiotics, focusing on the generative path of meaning, exploring above all the polemic dimension established between the two journals. Thus, it is hoped to discuss the values that guide each journal and the way in which the journals elaborate argumentative strategies for or against the political process brought against Dilma Rousseff in a historical-social context characterized by political polarization. |

En un escenario fragmentado en la discusión sobre si se trataba de un juicio político o un golpe de estado, observamos numerosas cuestiones partidistas e ideológicas. Este trabajo propone analizar cuatro portadas de revistas semanales (Veja y Carta Capital) para comprender la posición de cada una en relación con el acontecimiento político. La base teórica que subvenciona el análisis es la semiótica discursiva, centrada en el camino generativo del significado, explorando sobre todo la dimensión polémica establecida entre las dos revistas. Así pues, se espera examinar los valores que guían cada revista y la forma en que las revistas elaboran estrategias argumentales a favor o en contra del proceso político iniciado contra Dilma Rousseff en un contexto histórico-social caracterizado por la polarización política.A destituição de Dilma Rousseff da Presidência da República em agosto de 2016 inaugurou um dos períodos históricos mais polêmicos da história recente do Brasil. Em um cenário fragmentado na discussão sobre se foi impeachment ou golpe, observamos numerosos questionamentos partidários e ideológicos. Este trabalho se propõe a analisar quatro capas de revistas semanais (Veja e Carta Capital) para depreender o posicionamento de cada uma em relação ao evento político. Este trabalho tem como base a semiótica discursiva, com foco no percurso gerativo de sentido, explorando sobretudo a dimensão polêmica instaurada entre as duas revistas.
