Resumo: | This article aims at describing and analyzing some of the representations of old people that are presented in Portuguese textbooks for Ensino Médio, which were approved by PNLD, in order to discuss what kinds of representation are being spread by this didactic material to students and society. We base our investigation on a discourse perspective of language, using mainly Pêcheux and Foucault’s studies, and searching for the relations between language and History, considering the discursive formations. For this purpose, we intend to analyze the representations of old people that emerge from discourse excerpts selected from some textbook series and discuss some effects of meaning that those representations can suggest about their identity and their role in society. We can conclude that most of the images analyzed compare old people to outdated and obsolete objects of consumption, disseminating a negative imaginary about them to society. |

Embasamos nossa investigação numa perspectiva discursiva da linguagem,utilizando-nos dos estudos de Pêcheux e Foucault principalmente e buscando asrelações entre língua e história, a partir das formações discursivas. Paraisso, pretendemos analisar as representações dos idosos que emergem dosrecortes discursivos, selecionados de algumas coleções de livros didáticos, ediscutir os efeitos de sentido que essas representações podem sugerir sobre suaidentidade e seu papel na sociedade.
