Resumo: This paper aims to study some aspects related to the Portuguese orthography in Brazil. For this specific purpose, we selected the essay “Quadros de todo dia”, by Bluette, published in 1932, in the illustrated magazine “A Cigarra”, in which we analyzed words whose spelling is no longer used, focusing on the demonstration of its evolution. Taking the variety of materials about linguistic variation into account, we adopted the theory developed mainly by Camacho (1988), by Coutinho (1958) and by Williams (1975). Eventually, we verified the dynamic nature of the language, which is changing and redefining itself all the time, raising difficulties to generalize and make hermetic conclusions about it.

Para isso, selecionamos a crônica “Quadros de todo dia”, de Bluette, publicada em 1932, na revista ilustrada “A Cigarra”, em que analisamos os vocábulos cujas grafias não são mais utilizadas, visando demonstrar as etapas de sua evolução. Considerando a diversidade de materiais sobre a variação linguística, optamos por adotar as teorias desenvolvidas, principalmente, por Camacho (1988), Coutinho (1958) e Williams (1975).
