The Clothing Rental Practice in the City of Juiz de Fora (MG)

Resumo: The reuse of clothing is an ancient practice. Our interest to investigate how such practice integrates a scenario associated with the ephemerality of fashion consumption. It is an exploratory study with semi-structured interviews, conducted in the Juiz de Fora (MG), with party clothes and costumes rental store owners, as well as consumers of these products. The analysis of empiric material was done through themes that allowed the deepening of key aspects for the comprehension of the studied phenomenon. The interviews revealed that the motivation for the rental of clothing involves matters of price, exclusivity, fashion and deterioration of articles over time and that, although there are still restrictions on rent, related to lack of hygiene and negative energy issues,  it's a type of trade in expansion.

Trata-se de um estudo exploratório com entrevistas semiestruturadas, realizadas em Juiz de Fora (MG), com proprietários de lojas de aluguel de roupas de festa e de fantasias bem como com consumidores desses artigos. A análise do material empírico foi trabalhada através de eixos temáticos, que permitiram o aprofundamento de aspectos fundamentais para a compreensão do fenômeno estudado.
