Historic museum of Itajaí: place of education and memory

Objective: the study researched the public that experienced this place of education and memory, in the last three years, through the collection of data from the visitors' book as a research source and reports made available on the official website of the city of Itajaí. Methodology: the study was guided by the assumptions of the qualitative and quantitative approach coined by Creswell and Clark (2013), to research the public who experienced this place of education and memory. We consider the theoretical basis of D’Ávila (2018) and Konder (2012) to understand the history of Itajaí; Le Goff (2013) and Nora (1993) anchor the reflections of history and memory; Carvalho (2016) that addresses the theme of the museum as a reference in the cultural formation of society. Result: the museum’s guestbook contains the record of more than fifty thousand people who visited the museum between the years 2017 to 2019. Many of the visitors recorded, in the guestbook, their memories lived there. Conclusion: the study highlights a snapshot of the reality of the population that visits museums and schools that believe in this place as a driver of meanings, a framework of stories, memories and information.
