Data sharing in the context of Brazilian science an integrative study

Introduction: Data sharing among researchers is associated with the new scenario of scientific communication. This reality enables the reproducibility of research, new discoveries and resource savings. Objective: In this sense, the objective of this work was to analyze the data obtained and integrated from the investigation carried out with research professors linked to Brazilian graduate programs in the area of Information Science, and the others addressed in the research entitled “ Practices and perceptions of Brazilian researchers”, regarding the reasons for not sharing their data.Methodology: It is characterized as a bibliographical and exploratory research and has a quantitative-qualitative approach. Data were processed and later submitted to the chi-square test.Results: It was found that the Human Sciences and Social Sciences are the areas with the greatest challenges in the context of data sharing. The lack of requirement for the publication of data and the lack of infrastructure were the main barriers presented by the researchers. It was found that the Information Science area needs an infrastructure that encourages researchers to share their data.Conclusions: It is concluded that there is a need to implement more effective policies aimed at making research data available, in order to facilitate the use/reuse of data by the entire scientific community.
